3 Simple Ways You Can Create More Height Through Clever Dressing

How we dress is a constant process/journey that should be fun, light-hearted and enjoyable. Otherwise it becomes just a menial task and you lose out on all the wonderful ways to enhance your personality through your wardrobe.

For many, height can feel like a big hindrance on your style & what you can wear. But in all truthfulness, you can make pretty much anything work for you if you stick to a few simple, yet seamless rules.

With all of that being said, here are three ways you can effortlessly create the illusion of a little bit more height, through really efficient and clever ways of dressing for both men and women:

1) Monochromatic colours are your best friend!

A monochromatic palette is perhaps one of the simplest ways to create the illusion of more height. Monochromatic colours are all the colors (tints, tones, and shades) of a single hue. Creating a solid column of colour means you avoid ‘breaks’ in the outfit (the amount of colour changes) therefore elongating the body from head to toe. You can however mix colours within the same palette, i.e. different shades and tones, which is a great way of adding contrast to your outfit whilst till maintaining height. If you do mix colors, or even shades, keep the darker ones on the lower half of your body and the lighter ones up top. It will create a lengthening effect by drawing the eye upward.

2) Get yourself an incredible tailor / invest in well-fitted clothes

We all know how incredible well-fitted clothes look on both men and women. A good tailor is a necessity no matter your height, but especially beneficial if you are on the petite side. Most clothes on the high street are slightly more ‘boxy’ (especially when it comes to suits) so as to fit most body shapes. Without question, baggy clothes will stretch the silhouette horizontally, causing a person to look wider, instead of taller. So by finding yourself a great tailor, you can make sure you never waste your money again on ill-fitting clothes that widen you instead of lengthen you. Plus, if you’re constantly bringing business their way and develop a really good relationship with them, they’ll be more likely to give you discounted rates!

3) Keep accessories simple and on the top half of your body.

Simple is definitely better with accessories. In order to look taller, you want people’s eyes to be drawn upwards and accessories is a great way of doing this. However, try to keep it minimalistic and simple as to not over-clutter the outfit, and avoid anything that will draw their attention below your chest. Remember the lower you go, the darker and the simpler you should go too (especially for menswear). About 3 key pieces maximum, should do the trick!

But most importantly, just have fun with developing your personal style. No one is expected to know everything right off the bat, so play around and find what works for you and what doesn’t. Don’t take yourself too seriously, enjoy the process!
