3 Ways To Develop Your Personal Style

“Personal style is knowing yourself, your lifestyle, your body, and finding clothes that become the frame. You become the star.” – Michael Kors

Finding your personal style can be a struggle (and I’m the first to admit this) but it doesn’t have to be this way. With a few simple guidelines, you can learn exactly what it takes to define your personal style, and how to translate this effectively through your wardrobe.

Here are some of the ways I help my clients define theirs:

1) Find out who inspires you!

In order to be able to translate your personal style, you need to know what you like and dislike first. Compile a list of celebrities/bloggers who’s style you absolutely love. You can use Pinterest, Google or even Instagram to compile a sort of ‘ideal’ look board. By pin pointing exactly what you love about each person’s style, you’ll be able to remember these when out shopping for new items or selecting items from your current wardrobe. It’s all in the details, but you need to know what those details are first.

2) Clean up and clear out your wardrobe.

It all starts and ends with your closet. You can immediately tell a lot about a person just by looking at their wardrobe. So take a long, hard look at yours and toss out anything you haven’t worn in the last year (because there’s a reason you haven’t worn it) and keep the items which you feel currently reflect your personality and lifestyle. If you’re unsure, create a donate pile. In order to create a cohesive and fully-functioning wardrobe you need a clean slate, and this is the perfect excuse to do some spring cleaning. I promise you you’ll feel amazing for doing so afterwards.

3) Know that you can feel fantastic in anything with a healthy dose of confidence.

Think about everything you want to translate through your wardrobe, including your personality. Take into consideration your dreams and aspirations, even your current career path and goals. You want your style to relay the message that you know what you want in life, you’re prepared, and ultimately you’re confident in your ability. Confidence is the key to making anything look good, and it’s something we should all strive to create more of for ourselves. Confidence and healthy self-esteem lets everyone know that you’re confident in your own skin and that, my friends, is life-changing.

Want to take it a step further? Don’t be afraid to ask for help…

When you’re serious about your skin, you book an appointment with your dermatologist. When you want incredible photos taken for your portfolio, you hire a professional photographer, and the same can be said with your style. If you’re really serious about creating these incredibly powerful changes in your life, then all you have to do is ask.
